OUR SERVICES
Eye Examination

At Spectacle Hut, we make vision care personal by offering a range of eye examination services that address your individual needs. These services include refraction, colour vision screening, ocular health assessment and tonometry*.

Refraction

We use both objective and subjective refraction methods to assess the amount of refractive error and how well you can see (visual acuity) at a specific distance. This allows us to determine the prescription for your glasses or contact lenses and ensure that you have clear and comfortable vision.

Colour Vision Screening

We administer the Ishihara colour vision test to screen for any colour vision abnormalities. Should there be any suspicious findings, we will refer you to an ophthalmologist for further testing and assessment.

Ocular health assessment

We perform a comprehensive ocular health assessment of the eye, comprising of an anterior (front part of the eye), and posterior health check (back of the eye). We use a slit lamp to examine the cornea (front surface of the eye), lids/lashes and conjunctiva. This is especially important for contact lens wearers, as it allows us to assess the corneal integrity and eliminate any signs of active inflammation. For non- contact lens wearers, slit lamp examinations are performed regularly to check for dry eye, signs of pinguecula/pterygium and assess for cataracts.

We also use fundus photography to examine the posterior eye. This allows us to detect eye conditions that affect the retina and optic nerve, such as diabetic retinopathy, hypertensive retinopathy, macular degeneration and glaucoma.

Tonometry

We use tonometry to measure your intraocular pressure (eye pressure). Elevated eye pressure is a risk factor for certain diseases such as angle closure, ocular hypertension, glaucoma.

Why Should You Have An Eye Examination?

Many people believe that having good vision equates to good eye health, but this is not always the case. Many eye conditions can go unnoticed in their early stages, as they are often asymptomatic until they progress to a more severe stage. Early signs of most eye conditions can only be detected through a proper eye examination. In most cases, early detection allows for earlier intervention and a better visual prognosis.

How Often Should I Have My Eyes Checked?

We recommend that everyone have an eye examination annually, even if there are no changes to their vision. Regular eye exams can help with the early detection of potential eye conditions, and eye health can also serve as an indicator of your overall systemic health.

Children under 16 years old are encouraged to have their eyes checked every 6 months as their eyes are still developeing, and may be susceptible to rapid refractive changes.
